Mazda è in lizza per aggiudicarsi l'ambito premio Auto dell'Anno 2020, al quale concorre con le Mazda3 e CX-30, ma in attesa di conoscere l'esito delle votazioni (la vincitrice sarà annunciata il 4 marzo) può già mettere un premio in bacheca.
La berlina a 5 porte Mazda3 è stata nominata infatti Women’s World Car Of The Year, riconoscimento alla decima edizione in cui a votare sono 41 giornaliste in rappresentanza di 33 nazioni (per l'Italia c'è Ilaria Salzano di La Repubblica).

Le giurate del Women’s World Car Of The Year non devono valutare la migliore auto in assoluto, a differenza di quello che avviene nei premi come Auto dell’Anno, ma devono attenersi ai criteri che più interessano alle donne: la facilità di guida avrà un'importanza maggiore rispetto allo scatto da 0 a 100 km/h, ma hanno un certo peso nel giudizio finale anche la sicurezza, il rapporto qualità/prezzo, l'estetica, la capacità di carico, le accortezze per quando si trasportano bambini, i colori e l'impatto sull'ambiente.

La Mazda3 succede alle Hyundai Ioniq, eletta Women’s World Car Of The Year nel 2017, e alla Volvo XC40, vincitrice del premio l’anno scorso.

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda3 has been named “Supreme Winner” of the 2019 Women's World Car of the Year awards. In addition to taking the top award, the model also won Women's World Family Car of the Year. Established in 2010, Women's World Car of the Year is voted on by a panel of female judges from over 30 different countries who are asked to vote according to criteria women use when buying a car.
